Gouda

City
An old city famous of his delicious cheese.

The town got his name from the Van der Goude family who settled in a castle near the Gouwe River.

In 1225 a canal was linked to the Gouwe. Gouda became a city in 1272.

This street is located in a shopping area and I took here

one of the panoramas.

Water
Gouda is a canal city like Amsterdam.

Therefore it is important to manage the water carefully.

One of the solutions is to use locks.

Here I was at the lock called "Mallegatssluis" which is built in 1763 and renovated in 1984.

The function of the harbour behind the lock is for an exposition of old ships.
