It would not be a surprise
that Istanbul have a lot of mosques (Camıı). Out of totally 3000 mosques the most famous are the Sultanahmet mosque (Blue mosque) and the Ayasofya mosque in the old part of Istanbul at the Europian side.
The Sultanahmet mosque was built in 7 years in the 17th century.
The Ayasofya mosque is older and was built in the year 537 in 6 years. |

During my stay in Istanbul I visited a few palaces (Sarayı).
The most famous one is the Dolmabahçe Sarayı which is located in Beşiktaş near Boğaziçi.
...other palaces are the Ottoman palace Hidiv Kasri in Beykoz (which is now a restaurant) and the Büyük Çamlıcaa (Çamlica Tepesi). |

At the narrowest part of the Bosphorus, Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror built the fortress of Rumeli Hisari in 1452 in only four months.
It is one of the most beautiful works of military architecture in the world.
Near this fortress is the Fatih Sultan bridge located. It is 1510m long with a deck width of 39m. The distance between the towers is 1090m and their height over road level is 105m. The clearance of the bridge from sea level is 64m. |
